Richard Henry Meincke

December 7, 1925 — December 26, 2016

Richard Henry Meincke, age 91, of Lake City passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at The Bluffs of Lake City. He was born on December 7, 1925 to John and Geraldine (Meyer) Meincke in Lake City. He attended rural schools and Lincoln High School in Lake City. He married Lois Betcher February 6, 1946 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Lake City. They farmed in Mt. Pleasant Township until 1979 when they moved to Lake City.
He served in the U. S. Navy from December 1944 to July 1946. He served in the South Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Monterey. They were anchored in Tokyo Bay when the peace treaty was signed with Japan. He also attended the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.
Richard was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. He served on the church council, rural school board - Mt. Pleasant Township Board, DAC Board, Wabasha County Board of Commissioners and several years on Board of Directors of Lake City State Bank. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW, and served on the Honor Guard.
Richard loved his farming, fishing, playing cards, dancing and especially enjoyed spending 31 winters in Arizona where he played volleyball and played in senior Olympics in Tucson, Arizona. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois of Lake City; four children, three sons, James (Linette) Meincke of Lake City, Daniel (Elaine) Meincke of Lake City, Randy (Lori) Meincke of Lake City, and one daughter, Mary Kay (Jon) Gravenish of Lake City; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geraldine; two brothers, Robert and Morris; and one sister, Katherine Lutjen.
A Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Paul Otto officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery with military honors by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
