Joseph Mark Smith, 60, of Red Wing, formerly of Ellsworth, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020.
Joe graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1978. Her served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1978 to 1984. He attended Red Wing Industrial Vo-tech from 80-81 and Received a certificate as an Industrial Machinist. He then attended the University of Minnesota and received a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business. Joe was a 30+ year beer vendor at the Metrodome for the Twins and the Vikings seasons.
Joe's lifelong passion was growing flowers and produce for the farmer's market and local restaurants. He was a well-known vendor at the markets and enjoyed meeting people and selling produce. Joe spent many years raising produce on the family farm in Ellsworth with is brother Jim. Often Joe's nieces and nephews were introduced to the trials and tribulations of growing and selling produce under his tutelage. Joe was generous with his time and produce. For many years he donated fresh produce to the Little Sister of the Poor. Joe loved and was active in fraternal organizations. He was a 4-H Blue Ribbon vegetable producer. Joe told many stories from is U of M fraternity days. He was a member of the Red Men Club and a proud 20+ year member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. He loved fraternizing and was full of good cheer.
He is preceded in death thy his parents, George and Mary Smith; brothers, Peter, James and John.
He is survived by his siblings, George Smith, Fred (Penny) Smith, Beth (Jody) Di Grazia, Andy (Diane) Smith, Leo (Karen Grotberg) Smith, Mary (Ricky) Jones, Alice (Dan) Wiger, and Sarah (Mike) Ryan; many beloved nieces and nephews as well as special friends Sally, Jan, Joy, Marianne and Ginger.
A celebration of life will be at a later date. Joe will be interred at Diamond Bluff Cemetery in the family plot. Memorials may be made in Joe's name to the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
