ZUMBROTA - The funeral for Wynette Hovel will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (July 5, 2007) at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with the Pastor Wayne D. Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery.

Mrs. Hovel, 87, of Zumbrota, died Saturday (June 30, 2007) at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester.

Wynette Katherine Gruhlke was born Feb. 26, 1920 in Chester Township, rural Mazeppa, the daughter of William and Mamie (Albers) Gruhlke. She attended school in rural Bear Valley. On June 8, 1938 she married Elmer Hovel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bear Valley. Together they farmed in rural Zumbrota until retiring in 1980. Elmer died on July 28, 1988. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was active in the Ladies Aid. She also volunteered as a 4-H Leader and belonged to the Pine Aires Extension Home Study Group. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and working in her yard. Wynette moved to the Zumbrota Nursing Home in 2002.

Survivors include a daughter Mary Ann (Tom) Henderson, and a son Mark both of Zumbrota; four grandchildren, Kelly (Kelly) Hovel, Eric Henderson, Mamie (Paul) Luhmann, and Carrie (Perry) Dohrn; one great grandson, Colby Dohrn; and her sister, Phyllis (John) Heise of Zumbrota. In addition to her husband, her brother Donald Gruhlke preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Homes - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church. Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church and School.
