Winton "Win" Cameron Hendrickson, 85, of Red Wing, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born November 26, 1923 to William and Merle (McColley) Hendrickson. He lived in Door County, Wisconsin and moved back to Minneapolis when he was 11 years old. He attended Minneapolis South High and Roosevelt High School, where he graduated in 1942. He played football in high school and enjoyed all sports. He was the Minnesota Ten-Mile Sprint Cycling Champion for the Gopher Wheelmen Cycling Club and went to the Junior Nationals in Ohio. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1943-1946. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Johnson in 1946. They had four children, Stephen, William, Peter, and Susan. He joined Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1946 and worked as a cable splicer in Minneapolis, while attending business school at the University of Minnesota. He went into the Northwestern Bell Management Program in 1950. In 1954 they moved to Moorhead with Northwestern Bell Telephone. In 1956, he moved to Red Wing as manager of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. He and Phyllis began their life-long love of golf in 1956 as members of Red Wing Country Club, where he served as president. Winton won many club and local tournaments and played continuously, even after being disabled in a car accident in 1980. He joined Red Wing Pottery as a National Sales Manager in 1962. In 1965 he joined Land O' Nod Furniture as a field salesman where he worked until retirement in 1980. Always restless; he sold Purple Cross Insurance despite his physical handicap, and in later years he served on the board of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, traveling to many national conventions on behalf of the veterans group. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 and served on the Red Wing Airport board. He was a past member of Zurah Shriners. He enjoyed traveling, music, Scrabble, and of course, playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four children, Stephen Hendrickson of Minneapolis, William (Rhonda) Hendrickson of Minnetonka, Peter (Martha) Hendrickson of Red Wing, and Susan (Paul) Schurke of Ely; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Thomas (Marjorie) Hendrickson of Lakeville; two sisters, Mayburn Merchant of Lakeland, Florida and Jordis (Nick) Wolf of Lakeville, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
