Wilmer "Tony" R. Strickland

Wilmer "Tony" R. Strickland, 65, of Menlo Park, California died Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, California. He was born on January 21, 1948 in Lake City, Minnesota to Wilmer and Verona (Steffenhagen) Strickland. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1966. He then served in the US Army during the Vietnam War in South Korea from 1966 to 1969. Following his discharge he lived in San Jose, California. Since August of 2012 he resided at the Veterans Hospital in Menlo Park. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball and fishing. While living in California he enjoyed music and watching sports, especially baseball. His favorite sport teams were the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings along with the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers.

Survivors include one sister, Sharon Norman of Santa Clara, Calf.; one brother, Robert (Julie) Strickland of Red Wing; nieces and nephews, James, Sean and Dean Norman, Jason, and Jeffrey Strickland, Lynn Storing and Dawn Knutson along with numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gary; one sister, Judi Johnson and one nephew, Jesse Strickland.

Funeral will 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society of Goodhue County.
