Wilma "Elaine" Safranek Kohrs, 91, of Lake City, died Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Lake City Care Center. She was born February 20, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Adrian and Etta (Jackson) Strayer. Her family moved to Iowa where she graduated from high school and then attended beauty school. She was united in marriage to Alvin "Al" Safranek on April 24, 1949 in Oelwein, Iowa and they moved to Lake City, MN in 1952. She worked as a beautician for several years and then at the Seberg Dental Office as a receptionist/hygienist and later as a secretary at the United Methodist Church. Al died in 2001 and she married Gerhardt Kohrs on Nov. 9, 2007. Elaine had served on the Lake City Hospital Board and as a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, she was involved in the planning and serving of funeral luncheons. For many years she sold her handmade dolls during the Lake City Water Ski Days and was lovingly know as the "Doll Lady" and the "Cookie Lady"--never running short of cookies in her home. She kept very busy with her family, church, neighbors and friends in Bridge and Mahjong groups and bowling team get-togethers.
