Willis J. Aebly, age 94, of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Susan Vikstrom officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery with military honors provided by Stary �Yerka VFW Post #5727 of Zumbrota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Willis Jacob Aebly was born on September 15, 1913 in Zumbrota, MN to Henry A. and Lura M. (nee Bringgold) Aebly. Willis grew up in Zumbrota and graduated Zumbrota High School in 1931. Willis ran a service station until entering the U.S. Army on August 20, 1941. Willis was transferred to England on the troopship "Ille de France". Around Christmas time of 1944 he was transferred to LeHarve, France and near the end of the war he was at Halle, Germany. Willis returned to Fort Dix on the troopship "George Woodward". Willis was a mechanic on the heavy artillery tractors. After his honorable discharge on December 27, 1945 he returned to Zumbrota. He started working as a mechanic at Nerhaugen Chevrolet and retired in 1980 from Grover Auto Company. Willis was a member of Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 and the United Redeemer Lutheran Church. Willis is survived by cousins.
