William LeRoy Schmidt 92 of Plainview, MN passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital Rochester.
Mr. Schmidt was born November 4, 1916 in Lake City, MN to Harry and Augusta (Kuhfuss) Schmidt. He attended school in Red Wing, MN. On July 17, 1941 he married Mildred Cotton at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, MN. They farmed the family farm on Pepin Hill, in Lake Township rural Lake City, MN. They then moved to Rochester, MN where he worked as a welder at Briese Steel and Crenlo for many years. He then worked for 15 years at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church as custodian and in maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and baseball.
He is survived by his wife Mildred of Plainview, MN; two daughters, JoAnn Broten of Rochester, MN, Judy Berg of Wabasha, MN; one son, Robert (Mary Beth) Schmidt of St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; one sister Mildred Dose of Rochester, MN, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence Berg and brother George Schmidt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, MN on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Father Richard Dernek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lake City. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City.
