William "Bill" E. Petersen

William E. "Bill" Petersen, age 87, of rural Mazeppa, MN, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 at his home.
William Ernest Petersen was born Oct. 30, 1929 in Elkhart, IN to Peter Wilhelm and Bertha Bernice (Myers) Petersen. He lived in various cities before graduating from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, OH in 1948. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until his discharge in June of 1952. He attended Ohio State University for one year before graduating from Fenn University (Cleveland State University), in Cleveland, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. On June 22, 1957, he married Margaret Virginia Pardee in Pittsburgh, PA.
Bill worked for Dow Chemical Co. in Midland, MI before returning to Cleveland where he worked for the Sherwin Williams Company.
He was and owner/manager of a Perkins Restaurant in Wooster, Ohio for ten years.
Bill returned to Mechanical Engineering as a Contract Engineer working for the Eli Lilly Co., and Merck Pharmaceuticals, retiring in 1996, when he moved to Mazeppa. The couple spent their winters in Florida and Mesa, AZ.
Bill enjoyed fishing and boating, woodworking, traveling, and genealogy. He was known as the neighborhood "Fix-it-Man", being referred to as "Uncle Bill". He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Rochester, the Danish American Society, the Desert Botanical Society, and a participant in the Road Scholar Program, to show his grandchildren "New Frontiers".
Survivors include his wife Margaret; son Kurt (Jackie) of Clinton, MO; two daughters Ivy (Mark) Pillers of Rochester; and Ruth (Peter) Warbalow of Stillwater, MN; and nine grandchildren Eric, Liane, Amy, Michelle, Roy, Margaret "Peggy", Megan, Amber, and Haley. A son Eric, and his parents preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Community Presbyterian Church.
