William Orville Owen, 61, of Red Wing, died Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born August 8, 1951 in Red Wing to Lou and Irene (Owen) Gibson. He grew up in California where he also attended school. After graduation he moved to Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis Community College. Later he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served until he was honorably discharged. He then served with the AIM Patrol. He then worked at the Anishinaabe Long House as a corrections officer. William enjoyed spending time on the Prairie Island Indian Community and with his best friend, Koda.
He is survived by his sister, Marcia Perez and her family of New Orleans; Josh Uditsky and his family of St. Louis Park; Edward Jefferson and his family of Prairie Island; his companion, Brenda Petonic of Red Wing; his aunt Constence Clark of Stewart, Iowa as well as the entire Owen family and many other relatives. He is preceded in death by his mother, Irene Gibson; Barbara Inez Owen; Delphine Emme; Owen Chapman; Quintin Westen Owen; Wallace Calvin Owen; grandparents, Frances Hoffman Owen and Wallace Westen Owen.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Prairie Island Community Center. Burial will be at the Prairie Island Community Cemetery. A visitation will be Monday, September 9 at the community center.
