William "Bill" Ervin Langhans

William Ervin Langhans, 75, of Red Wing died on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 surrounded by his family at his home. Bill was born on December 16, 1941 in Red Wing to Edwin and Esther (Becker) Langhans. He graduated in 1959 from Red Wing High School where he was a charter member of the Red Wing Bearing Burners Car Club. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1960-1963. He returned to Red Wing after his honorable discharge from the Army and married Janice Kivi in 1972 at Concordia Lutheran Church. He started working for UPS in 1968 and worked there until his early retirement due to a traumatic brain injury in 1995. He was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. Bill was passionate about several hobbies throughout his life; including boating, specifically runabouts; classic cars, including his 1937 Chevrolet pickup; and most recently drag races. Bill attended the drag races in Brainerd for over twenty years and was a member of NSRA and MSRA. He was also a devoted Vikings Fan. Through the years, the one thing that never changed was Bill's love for his family.

Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Jan; sons Daniel (Christa) Langhans of Lake City and Kelly (Bobbi) Langhans of Red Wing; seven grandchildren Nick (Kaci) Peterson, Dylan Peterson, Andrew (Bailey) Juergens, Gracie (Austin) Spriggle, William Langhans, Jana Langhans and Samantha Langhans; great grandchildren Addison, Liam, and baby girl due in November; two brothers Richard (Barbara) Langhans and Robert (Mary) Langhans; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service for Bill will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Reverend Lowell Sorenson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. , Monday, August 21, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
