William Howard Kuehl

September 9, 1938 — October 15, 2008

William Howard Kuehl, 70, Red Wing, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born September 9, 1938 in Minneapolis, the son of Howard Godfrey and Vivian Ruth (Bardill) Kuehl. The family moved to Red Wing when he was a young child and he graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1957. He married Kathleen "Kay" Koester on August 22, 1959 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He served in the U. S. National Guard with Company B, 135th Infantry Regiment and then in the U. S. Navy April 9, 1958 � November 8, 1961, continuing in the Naval Air Reserves for 28 years of service. He received his airline mechanic license and worked for Western and United Airlines. He worked for Lee Lines, Munson Trucking and Allied Systems, retiring in 2004. He continued driving for Lawrence Nationalease, Walzer's and Amdahl's. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a lifetime member of BPOE Elks Lodge #845, and of the Frontenac Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Kay of Red Wing; five children: Deb (Michael) Egan of Red Wing, Dawn Kuehl of Zumbrota, Spencer (Lisa) Kuehl of Red Wing, Danette (Cory) Mundahl of Woodbury and Scott (Kelly) Kuehl of Red Wing; seven grandchildren; two sisters: Judy (Bob) Dunbar of Dakota Dunes, SD and Kathy Knight of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Saint Joseph with Father Thomas Kommers and Father Ken LaVan officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 1:45 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p. m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or the church.
