William John Kittley

July 22, 1925 — January 24, 2016

William (Bill) John Kittley passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home. He was 90, and died peacefully in the comfort of familiar surroundings, with his family at his side.
He was born on July 22, 1925 to Joseph and Kathryne Kittley in Rochester, Minnesota.
He married Janet MacKay on September 9, 1950 and they were married for 65 years, until the time of Bill's death. They had two daughters and made their home together in rural Rochester.
Bill left high school early to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. He proudly served as a Seabee, constructing barracks and landing strips for US forces to arrive in Hawaii, Saipan, and Tinian. Bill was thrilled to be on the first Honor Flight from Rochester to Washington DC. He earned his GED upon returning to the States. He attended Rochester Junior College and later La Salle correspondence course for accounting.
Bill took great pride in building a cabin for his family on Peterson Lake on the Mississippi. Bill and Jan enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Europe.
Bill had a career at Libby's (Seneca Foods) as plant controller for 31 years. After his retirement, he worked as a realtor; and also as a parts and dealer trade driver for Rochester Ford. He was proud to work part time until he was 88. He was a talented woodcarver and was a member of the Rochester Woodcarvers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Kathryne (Julia) Miller, Marilyn Olson; and brother, Robert Kittley.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, of Rochester; two daughters, Beth (Wayne) Fieck of Rochester, Susan (Alan) Utesch of Mantorville; three grandchildren, Kelly Utesch of Mantorville, Adam Utesch of Bogota, Colombia, and Colin Fieck. He had three great-grandchildren, including Tanner William Weifenbach of Mantorville.
A funeral service is planned on Friday, January 29 , 2016 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Wm. T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Bill's family wishes to thank the staff of Mayo Clinic Hospice for their support in keeping him at home, per his wishes. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Hospice or the Rochester Woodcarvers.
