William "Bill" Jacob

William Henry Jacob, age 81, of Lake City, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 at his residence. He was born on November 22, 1928 in Lake City to George and Clara (Tiedeman) Jacob. Bill graduated from Lincoln High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a carpenter mate 3rd class. He then attended Winona State College for two years. On December 28, 1951 he married Ila Ann Hoops. Bill then enlisted in the U.S. Air force serving as first lieutenant. During his service with the Air Force he was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA, Hamilton Air Force Base in CA, and Truax Air Force Base in Madison, WI. Upon his honorable discharge Bill began working for Tenant and Hoyt Flour Mill, where he later became vice president.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry. Other organizations he belonged to were the Lake City Sportsman's Club, Lake City Golf Club, V.F.W. Post #8729, and the Lake City Fire Department. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, searching for morel mushrooms and ginseng, and playing cards at the V.F.W. He loved to have his grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit. He also enjoyed vacationing in Florida and South Padre Islands in Texas after his retirement.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ila of Lake City; four daughters, Vickie (Randy) Ahrens of Lake City, Debra Koch of Regina, Canada, Sandra (Peter) Coyle of Apple Valley, Lisa (Wade) Koch of Edenwold, Canada; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara; brother, Fredrick, two sisters, Katherine Boss and Mary Ellen Jacob
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Father Larry Green officiating. Burial will take place at Lakewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eugene Becker, Joe Schad, Iver Eggenberger, Richard Huppert, Bob Cliff, Arnold Clare. Honorary Pallbearers will be Louie Richardson, Ronald Hoops, Steve Busch, Arthur Harteneck, and Sonny Plank. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or the Hospice program of donor's choice. Online condolence can be sent at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
