William Hislop

William R. Hislop was called home by his Lord on March 5, 2008 at the Lake City Nursing Home. He was born December 26, 1918 to Orie and Olive (Krause) Hislop in Winona, MN., the first of three children. After graduation from Lake City High School, William worked with the CCC on nature conservation projects around Lake City, including the planting of the pine trees in front of Wild Wings. He married Dorothy Evelyn Engle November 28, 1942. He served in the army during WWII at Ft. Snelling and in the Pacific, much of the time on New Caledonia and Luzon Islands. He became a sheet metal supervisor, working in the field for over 50 years, including the construction of Mayo Clinic. He retired in Mpls. in 1981. He and Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years traveling, camping, square dancing, and lots of fishing. Their summers were spent in Northern Minnesota and winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Dorothy passed away in 2000.
Survivors include sons, Steven (Nancy), Longmont, Colo., Lance (Eileen) Homer, MN. Grandchildren, Brent, (Karen), Matthew (fianc?e, Katie), Trevor (Mindi), Crystal, and Kelton Hislop, great-grandchildren, Brock, Noah, Zachery, Mia, and Zachery He is also survived by sister, Margaret Leerssen, brother, Leonard Hislop, both of Lake City, many nieces and nephews, including special niece and care giver, Lynne Tipcke of Red Wing, and special friend Better Soderholm of Maple Grove,MN. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, and grandson, Alex. William was a member of Homer United Methodist Church, which he dearly loved along with his Pastor, Christine. He also attended Lake City United Methodist Church, and was a greeter at both churches. He was a member of the VFW. His last years were spent at Lake Pepin Plaza. He will be fondly remembered by many friends in Lake City, Winona, and Apache Junction.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at Homer United Methodist Church with Pastor Christine Robinson officiating. Memorials are preferred to Homer United Methodist Church.
Cremation services by Mahn Family Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will be at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis.
