William "Bill" Heydmann, age 82, of Lake City died on Sunday February 6, 2011 at his home.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday February 10, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with the Reverend Andy Krause officiating. The visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery.
William Henry Heydmann was born on April 24, 1928 in Red Wing to Oscar and Edith (Hinrichs) Heydmann. He was baptized on June 10, 1928 at the Grace Lutheran Church parsonage in rural Goodhue and was later confirmed on March 29, 1942 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Bill attended country school in Zumbrota Township. He then began to farm on the family farm. On October 19, 1952 Bill married Parma Erath at Christ Lutheran Church. The couple had two children, Bruce and Brenda. On February 1, 1981 Parma preceded Bill in death. On December 5, 1981 he married Delila Banitt. The couple moved to what he called his, "retirement farm" in 1983, which was adjacent to the Home Farm. They then moved just north of the home farm and they remained there for 14 years. When Bill retired, he and Delila moved to Lake City.
Bill enjoyed farming, carpentry, cattle sales, and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling stories, and talking in German. Bill served on the church council at both Christ Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church, where he was also a member of the choir. He also served on the Goodhue County Holstein Association Board.
Bill is survived by his wife, Delila of Lake City; children, Bruce (Cherie) Heydmann and Brenda Hovel both of Zumbrota; step-children, Joanne (Dick) Egge of Cannon Falls, Bradley (Linda) Banitt of Zumbrota, Bruce (Diane) Banitt of Pine Island, Diane (John) Mann of Zumbrota, Brian (Arlene) Banitt of Rochester, and Suzanne (Norris) Thomforde of Goodhue; twenty-six grandchildren; many great-granchildren; two sisters, Marlene (Harvey) Busby and Marcella Milke; and several uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Edith; and his wife, Parma.
