William Henry Diepenbrock, age 87 of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home. He was born on February 2, 1927 in Lake City to Grover and Cecila (Rill) Diepenbrock. He attended local schools before joining the army on April 19, 1945. William served his country during WWII before being honorably discharged on February 10, 1947. He was united in marriage to Magdalene "Marge" Rebarchek on July 29, 1958 in Cresco, IA. They were lifelong Lake City residents and were blessed with four children. Marge passed away in 2007. After his military career, William went on to become a telephone install and repair technician at Dwelle Telephone Company, finally retiring in 1983 after 32 years of employment. He was also a member of the local VFW and of the Lake City Fire Department from 1953-1977.
William is survived by his four children, Cindy Richardson, Dave (Nancy) Diepenbrock, Jeff (Julie) Diepenbrock, and Lori (Steve) Gappa, all of Lake City; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great- great grandchildren; two siblings, Arlene Rutz of Lake City and John (Sandy) Diepenbrock of Pueblo, CO; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; parents; and siblings, Don, Robert and Richard Diepenbrock and son-in-law, Tom Richardson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2014 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #110 and Lake City VFW Post #8729. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
