Willard George Schulenberg, 97, of Red Wing, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Fairview Seminary Home. He was born November 22, 1909 in Red Wing to William H. and Olive (Grendahl) Schulenberg. He was a 1928 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. During school, he worked part-time at Maetzold?s Grocery and after graduating, he worked full-time at the store. On October 5, 1932 he married Alta Carlson in Sisseton, South Dakota. He began working as an accountant for Northern States Power Company in 1930, where he was employed for 40 years, retiring as credit manager in 1970. After retiring, he designed, built and painted well over 1000 wren houses which he gave away to others. Alta preceded him in death on September 3, 2004. A member of Christ Episcopal Church he was active in the Vestry, had served as Jr. and Sr. Warden and clerk of the Vestry, and he was also a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Old Frontenac. He was the oldest member of the Red Wing Elk?s Lodge, at 65 years, and was given his lifetime membership award; he was also a past member of the Red Wing Wildlife League. In his later years he enjoyed facilitating and organizing his class reunions. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes and golfing. He is survived by 2 sons, The Reverend George W. (Etsuko) Schulenberg of Fergus Falls and The Reverend Michael A (Karen) Schulenberg of Lake City; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, and David Schulenberg and Naomi Ebute; 4 great-grandchildren, Ansel, Joshua, Sara and Anna Schulenberg. He was preceded in death by his wife and 3 siblings, Russell and Ione Schulenberg and Violet Brown. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing with The Reverends George W. and Michael A Schulenberg officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials preferred to either Christ Episcopal Church of Red Wing or Frontenac or the Goodhue County Museum.
