Funeral services for Wilbert 'Bill' Sas will be held Saturday February 19th at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Reverend Rance Settle will officiate. The service will conclude with military honors provided by American Legion Post 92 of Rochester. Burial will occur at a later date at the Christian Reformed Cemetery near Leota. Mr. Sas, 84, of Rochester, died Wednesday February 16, 2011 at Seasons Hospice, rural Rochester.

Bill was born and raised on his parents' farm in Murray County. Born April 26, 1926, he was the son of Dan and Anna Sas. As an adult he continued farming on the family farm. He served in the US Army from April 1954 to December 1955, and is a veteran of the Korean War. He married Alice DeGroot, and she precedes him in death. On September 5, 1970, in Mankato, he married LaVonne Olson, and she survives. The couple moved to Rochester in 1973, and Bill began working for Larson Construction. Later he worked for Custom Truck, and drove charter coach bus for Rochester City Lines. After retirement he enjoyed working for farmers in the fall.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne, of Rochester; two daughters, Avis Sas of Seattle, Washington, and Edith (Mark) Gonzales of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Willis Sas of Seattle, Washington; two stepsons, Mark (Jean) Olson of Chanhassen, and Todd (Tina) Olson of Park Rapids; two grandchildren, Allison and Ann Gonzales, both of Anchorage; three step-grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica) Olson of Delano, Minnesota, and Lee and Andrew Olson of Park Rapids; and a great-grandchild, Elliana Olson of Delano. Also surviving are a sister, Marleen Walsh of Holland, Michigan; and a brother, Harvey (Gertrude) Sas of Leota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and a brother, Anthony Sas.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday February 18th at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.
