ORONOCO Wayne Franklin Tiedeman, 87 of Janesville, Wis., died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, shortly after arrival at Mercy Hospital, following an apparent heart attack.
Wayne Tiedeman was born on Nov. 3, 1922, in Oronoco, the son of John and Caroline (Glabe) Tiedeman. He attended the Presbyterian Church and elementary school in Oronoco and high school in Pine Island. He then pursued a degree in mechanical engineering from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota. During World War II, he left school for a time to operate the family farm following the death of his father. On June 12, 1954, Wayne married Nancy Ann Notbohm at First Presbyterian Church in Janesville. He was employed in the engineering department at the General Motors Assembly plant in Janesville for 34 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church.
Wayne was long active in numerous Masonic organizations, where he was past presiding officer of the following: Janesville Western Star 55 where he was a 50-year member, Janesville Royal Arch Masons 5, Gebal Council 2, Janesville Commandry 2, and Past Most Wise Master of Chapter of Rose Croix Scottish Rite. He was a member of Madison Zor Shrine, Knight York Cross of Honor, Wisconsin Prior 21, Order of Eastern Star 69 and Order of Amaranth 11.
Wayne enjoyed music, especially semi-classical and some classical and the popular songs of the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. He played the piano and was the pianist at the Oronoco Church for a number of years prior to going to college. He also played a baritone in the high school band and the Pine Island city band.
Wayne Tiedeman is survived by his wife, Nancy of Janesville; one son, Mark (Susan Mezera) Tiedeman of Poway, Calif.; two daughters, Faith Arnold of Janesville and Cynthia Tiedeman of Rochester; grandchildren, Karen (Justin) LaMoure, Laura and Scott Tiedeman, Angela Koepp, Kami, Sarah, Natasha and Meghann Arnold, and Torrey Tiedeman; two great-grandchildren, Emily Radtke and Delaney LaMoure. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester C. Tiedeman; and two sisters-in-law, Kay and Eleanor Tiedeman.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Presbyterian Church of Oronoco, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Gary Titusdahl and Chaplain Kitty Burbo of Mayo Clinic will be officiating. Burial will be in the Oronoco Cemetery.
There is a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Cargill United Methodist Church, 2000 Wesley Ave., Janesville, with Rev. Forrest Wells officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Henke Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, with Masonic Services at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cargill Church.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Janesville Masonic Center, Cargill United Methodist Church or the Presbyterian Church of Oronoco.
