Wayne Clifford Geppert, 86, of Lake City passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Lake City Care Center. He was born on April 27, 1928 in Lake City to Elmer and Iva (Copp) Geppert. He married Elizabeth Hickman on February 17, 1952 at the Wabasha Congregational Church. They farmed in the Mount Pleasant Township area until retiring and moving to Lake City in 1994. After retirement he worked at Lake City Rental for many years. Wayne was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Lake City and served as chairman of the board when the new First Congregational Church was built in 1966. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and of the Northern Regional Wool Board. He was a Silver Bell recipient for his outstanding contributions to the sheep industry. Periodically, he was also featured in national publications for his farming innovations.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; son, Steve (Rebecca) Geppert of St. Paul; daughter, Joni Geppert of White Bear Lake; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kay Geppert of Rochester; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Geppert; his sister, Audrey Benrud and his parents.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at First Congregational Church in Lake City with Reverend David Badgley officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City and one hour prior to the service at church.
