Wayne Charles Beard

Wayne Charles Beard, 87, of Hager City, died Monday July 3, 2017, at his home. He was born on December 19, 1929, in Bagley, Wisconsin to Robert and Albina (Lechner) Beard. He graduated from Hastings High School, then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954. On August 7, 1962, he married Mary Beissel in Hastings. For 36 years he was employed with the US Army Corps of Engineers working as a lockman on the US Lock and Dam #3. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing and the Harding-Hall-Darrington American Legion Post# 357 in Bay City. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling and his family recalls his love for reading, history and watching football.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, David (Sue) Beard, Dewey Beard and Gloria (Jason) Yarwood all of Hager City; five grandchildren, Spencer Beard, Cassidy (Mitchell) Rhiel, D.J. and Alec Yarwood and Calen Beard; two great-grandchildren; Oakley Yarwood and Eloise Rhiel; and one sister, Phyllis Baker of Indianola, WA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Harvey and one sister, Margaret Hankes.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Thomas Kommers presiding. Burial will be at the Trenton Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Harding-Hall-Darrington American Legion Post #357. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
