Walton J. Luettinger

Walt Luettinger, 97, of Lake City, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 31, 1917, in St. Charles, Minnesota, to Oscar and Mabel (Miller) Luettinger. He attended school at Lincoln High in Lake City and worked for the CC Camp prior to being drafted into the US Army in 1941. He served his country during WWII until he was honorably discharged in 1945. On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Shirley Hulterstrum and they made their home in Lake City. He worked different jobs until he began at Di-Acro, where worked for over 20 years until his retirement. Walt was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he had been active throughout the years as a member of various boards, Sunday school teacher, usher and past council member. He also belonged to the Lake City VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and boating, playing pool, metal working and spending time with family, especially his grandsons and his great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, of Lake City; 2 daughters, Cheryl Luettinger of Lake City and Wanda (Brad) Pederson of Rochester; 2 grandsons, Bryan Pederson of Las Vegas, NV and Nick (Jody) Pederson of Rochester; great-grandson, Gavin and 3 siblings, Olive Ellenson and Vernon (Norma) Luettinger both of Richfield and Arla Olive of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Duane Holst officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.
