Walter H. Tiedemann

Walter Henry Tiedemann, 84, died on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, where he had been a resident since March 2011. Walter was born July 18, 1928 in Red Wing to Henry and Margaret Ellen (Whipple) Tiedemann and grew up on the family farm in rural Zumbrota. He married Joan Myra Koenig on September 24, 1950 at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco.
Walter and Joan farmed for many years in rural Mazeppa before moving to town. Walter was an employee of the Wabasha County road maintenance department for 20 years. In addition, he worked for Paul Stolp Implement of Oronoco, drove school bus, sold Renk seed corn, did lawn work in the community and was custodian at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa, where he was a life-long member. He also was an adult leader in the local 4-H program and an officer in the local AAL insurance chapter. He was an active member in the local Senior Citizens organization, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a past member of the Mazeppa Cemetery Association.
Walter is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Kenneth W. of Dodge Center, daughters, Barbara M. (Michael) Koball of Pine Island and Nancy L. Tiedemann of LaCrosse, Wi., grandchildren Alicia (Zlatan) Krizan, Sara, Larry and David Tiedemann; 5 great grandchildren and brother, Merral (Marilyn) Tiedemann of Zumbrota. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Russell; 3 grandchildren and sister, Lucille.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 2 :00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Rev. Alan Horn officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Mazeppa Cemetery. Memorials are to be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Mazeppa Cemetery Association.
