Walter T. Krueger of Lake City, MN died on Thursday, April 21st at the Lake City Medical Center. He had Parkinson's disease and his condition worsened over the past two years. He was born on August 15th, 1928 in Truman, MN and his parents were Bertha (Rosenau) and Paul Krueger. He graduated from St. James High School. He joined the Army Reserve in 1950 and was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1952. He served as a Corporal during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany until 1956. On December 9th, 1967 he married Phyllis (Hinck) at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They lived in Mineapolis for six years and Walter was employed at Engfer Automotive. They moved to Lake City in 1974 and they established Krueger Auto, a car repair facility, which he operated until 2005. Walter was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, served on the St. John's School board, and was a member of the Phantoms and Chrysler 300 Auto Clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and their three sons, Keith (Yvonne Zhou) of Oakland, CA, Craig of Rochester, and Chris (Angie Cates) of Minnetonka; four grandchildren, Eva Krueger, Nina Krueger, Martin Krueger, and Libby Krueger; sister, Wilma Rettke; six nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by Lake City American Legion Post #110 and Lake City Post #8729. Pallbearers will be David Rettke, Darrell Rettke, Doug Rettke, Brent Hinck, Rollie Hinck, and David Hinck. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
