Walter V. Friese

Walter V. Friese, age 90, of Zumbrota died on Friday December 24, 2010 at Kenyon Sunset Home.

Walter was born on May 12, 1920 in Minneola Township to Frank and Ida (Busse) Friese. He graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1938. Walter entered the United States Army Air Force in 1942 where he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He served in the Air Force for three and a half years, the Air Force Reserve for three years, and the Zumbrota National Guard for two years. On June 15, 1953 he married Viola Finstuen at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. After 39 years of marriage, Viola preceded Walter in death on April 25, 1993.

Walter enjoyed fishing, reading and steam trains. He was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, having served as the Assistant Treasurer and on the Sunday School Building Committee. He was also a member of the Zumbrota VFW Stary-Yerka Post #5727.

Walter is survived by his stepchildren, Donna Carlson of Apple Valley, Delton (Karen) Finstuen of Farmington, Helen (David) Lother of Zumbrota, Virginia "Nikki" (Rudy) Chasing Hawk of Hastings, and Ruth Wordsworth of Theodosia, MO; several step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; and close friend, Jane (Joe) Himmer of Stewartville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola; his brother, Raymond; and two sisters that died at childbirth.
