Walter Arthur Foley, 85, Red Wing, died Monday, August 9, 2010 at Fairview Seminary Home. He was born March 21, 1925 in River Falls Township, WI, the son of John and Agnes (Langer) Foley. He attended school in Prescott and then Ellsworth High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in October of 1943 and served in the Pacific until being honorably discharged in 1946. He married Ruby Swanson on May 24, 1947 in St. Paul and they shared 63 years of marriage. He attended Agriculture School and began farming in Trenton Township for a few years and then in Cherry Grove Township in Minnesota. They moved to Hager City in the fall of 1972 and he worked for Cenex for 12 years and then retired. He was a member of Church of Saint Joseph. He enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Red Wing; 5 children: Thomas (Lori) Foley of Lund, WI, Brad (Judy Werner) Foley of Chanhassen, Barb (Mike) Laubenstein of Menomonie, WI, Iris (Wallace) Runck of Fairfax, MN and Steven (Judy) Foley of Red Wing; six grandchildren: Carl and Sonja Runck, Justin Laubenstein, Meghan and Ryan Foley and Lauren Werner-Foley; one great-grandchild, Payton Valenzuela; two brothers, Roger (Joann) Foley of Williamsburg, IA and Don Foley of Hartland, WI; one sister, Grace Johnson of Brainerd. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Jerome, Carmen and Florence and three brothers: Stanley, Robert and Frances.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 12, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Dar Reeck officiating. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery, Trenton Township, Wisconsin. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
