Walter Winifred Fischer

Walter Winifred Fischer, 85, of Red Wing died Monday, February 6, 2012 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing. He was born August 4, 1926 in River Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Speidel) Fischer. He grew up in the Shell Lake, Wisconsin area until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 during WWII. On March 6, 1945 he married Alice Regelman in Red Wing, where they made their home. He worked on the buffing machine at S.B. Foot Tanning Co. for 46 years until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed camping, yard work, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Alice of Red Wing; two daughters, Sharon (Richard) Hinrichs of Zumbrota and Shirley (Joseph) Hase of Cumberland, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Emil (Marian) Fischer of St. Paul; one sister, Ruth Thompson of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and one sister.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Deacon Pat Evans presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the funeral home and for one hour prior to service on Thursday. Online condolences may be sent at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
