Walter H. Field, 87, of Lake City, passed away Wednesday December 31, 2008 at Lake City Hospital Mayo Health Center in Lake City.

Walter was born June 24, 1921 in Lake City, Minnesota to James & Rosa Anne (Meyer) Field. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1939. Walter married Elizabeth (Liz) McRae on October 19, 1945 at the Island Bible Chapel. They farmed in the Red Wing area for a short time until moving to Diamond Bluff in 1947. Walter worked for the Red Wing Shoe Co. for 32 years until retiring January 1, 1984. He was a member of the Diamond Bluff United Methodist Church where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent for 35 years; he also held many other offices within the church. He is also a member of the Gideon's International. They moved to Lake City in 2007. Walter was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching.

Survived by wife Liz; 2 daughters Patsy (Rich) Elrod of Black River Falls, WI and Kelly (Steve) Perschau of Glencoe, MN; 1 son Roger of Maiden Rock, WI.; 4 grandchildren Richard (Polly) Elrod of Appleton, WI, April (Tom) Richter of Brookfield, WI, Wendy (Jerry) Turner of Wauwatosa, WI, Job (Amy) Field of Lake City, MN; 8 great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ethan, Evan, Christian, Jackson, Willa, Zoey, Corbin. 2 brothers, Robert Field of Salinas, CA Orville (Florine) Field of White Bear Lake, MN. He was proceeded in death by 1 daughter Joy Elizabeth Field.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson Chapel in Red Wing with the Rev. Don Jones officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Diamond Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Friends may also call one hour before the service.
