Walter A. Cordes age 81 of Lake City passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Lake City Hospital.

Walter was born July 17, 1926 in Florence Township to Arthur & Alvina (Michaelsen) Cordes. He grew up in Florence Township and attended District #28 School in West Florence. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1954. Walter married Audrey Conger March 4, 1961 at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester. They farmed in Florence Township until 1992 when they moved to Lake City. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence and he served as chairman of the church council for many years. He was a member of Lake City VFW Post 8729 and Red Wing American Legion Post. He was a member of the Lake City Lions Club were he volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Walter enjoyed traveling, playing golf, cards and they spent several winters in Arizona. He was also fond of spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Walter is survived by his wife, two sisters Vera (Russell) Carlson of Red Wing, Verna (Robert) Koenig of Lake City; two brothers, Lyle (Leona) Cordes of Lake City, Vernice (Fran) Cordes of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Franklin and Orlin.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence with the Rev. Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson- Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
