Walmar "Wally" Rudolph Voigt
April 21, 1933 — October 20, 2014
"Wally" was born April 21st, 1933 to Walter and Alma (nee Graese) Voigt. He attended grade school at Immanuel Lutheran Grade School in Hutchinson, MN and attended High School, college and graduated with a teaching degree from Dr. Martin Luther High School and College in New Ulm, MN.
While attending college he fell in love with Irene Ila Manthe and they were married August 3rd, 1954 in Alma City, MN. God granted them a happy life and blessed them with five children all of Red Wing, MN.: Bruce (Beth), James "Jim" (Jamie), Charles "Chuck", John "AJ", (Sara) Voigt, and Ruth Fitschen (Ralph).
After graduating college he taught school and was principle at St. John's Lutheran School in Red Wing, MN. He also worked at Durkee Atwood, Sherwin Williams, Hallstrom's Floral.
During his retirement he enjoyed delivering flowers from Hallstrom"s Floral and doing many painting jobs for friends, family and acquaintances.
He was a charter member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church here in Red Wing serving as: Choir Director, Sunday School teacher / Superintendent, Elder, Council member, Delegate, Treasurer, Secretary, and played many years on the Church softball team.
A special passion of his was volunteering for Special Olympics. His hobbies included: gardening, bird watching and painting. Wally especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wally was called to his heavenly home on October 20th, 2014 at the age of 81 years old. Wally's loved ones still remaining in their time of grace include 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 brothers, Ade (Ramona) of Bever Dam WI, Gary of Princeton WI, and Donald (Edith), of Lake City, MN.
Wally was preceded in death by his wife Irene, one son, Charles "Chuck" Voigt, and his parents.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. David Baker officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church or Special Olympics. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
