Wallace H. Nelson

Wallace H. "Wally" Nelson, 76, of Rochester, formerly of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, died Friday, June 15, 2007 at home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Monday, June 18, 2007 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester with the Reverend Peter Nycklemoe officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire at a later date. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 AM until the time of the service at the church.

Wallace Henry Nelson was born December 11, 1930 in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin to Roy and Christine (Russell) Nelson. In 1937 the family relocated to Mondovi, Wisconsin where Wally attended public schools and graduated from Mondovi High School in 1948. He worked at Mondovi Laundry and Cleaners. On April 26, 1952 Wally married Betty Karlen at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanley, Wisconsin. The couple moved to Stanley in 1953 where Wally worked for JJ Long, Inc. and later the Farmer's Store Co. Wally and Betty relocated to manage stores in Barron, Osseo and Whitehall, Wisconsin. The couple moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 1969 where Wally was employed by the Co-op Shopping Center. He then became a sales representative for Noritage Inc., where he worked over 30 years with furniture stores throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Iowa. Following Wally's retirement in 2004, the couple relocated to Rochester to be closer to their family. Wally enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Alan (Karen) Nelson of Kellogg; a daughter, Nancy (Paul) Newton of Rochester; four grandchildren, Jesse Nelson of Rochester, Camay Nelson of Elgin, David Newton and Carly Newton, both of Rochester; two great grandchildren, Brayden and Zackary; and a brother, Weston (Arlene) Nelson of Eau Claire. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Christine Nelson; a son, Donald Nelson and a brother, Wendall Nelson.
