Vivian Richter

Vivian Elizabeth Richter, 76, Red Wing, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was born October 8, 1931 in Red Wing, the daughter of Seneca and Alice (McKinley) VanGuilder. She attended school in Red Wing and she worked at Durkee-Atwood. She married Glenn Richter on November 27, 1954 and she stayed at home to raise their four children. She later worked part-time at Randy's, Braschler's Bakery and the American Red Cross. Glenn died December 27, 2004. She has been a resident of St. Brigid's at Hi-Park since 2006. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph. She enjoyed visiting, crossword puzzles, country music and being with her friends.

Survivors include three children: Daniel (Cindy) Richter of Owatonna, Joanne (Travis) Krig of Red Wing and James (Beate Harbaugh) Richter of Inver Grove Heights; daughter-in-law, Sandy Richter of Red Wing; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis VanGuilder of Red Wing and one sister, Jeanette Savage of Red Wing; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; one son, Robert; two brothers, Kermith and Jerry; one sister, Bonnie Pfingsten.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Milo Ernster officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Jeff, Sarah, Nathan, Karen, Nicholas and Marcus Richter. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
