Vivian Dorothy Perkins, 98, of Red Wing, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at the Fairview Seminary Home. She was born on November 2, 1909 in Featherstone Township to Charles and Clara (Kohshorn) Bang. She attended school District #20 in Hay Creek and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1927. She graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in 1931. She worked as a night Supervisor Nurse at Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul until 1935. She married Vernon L. Perkins on August 8, 1935; they were the third generation to farm the Perkins farm and apple orchard. In September of 1986 they moved to Red Wing. Vernon died on March 31, 1987 in Texas. She was an active in community organizations including a 4-H adult leader, Home Extension Group, a 58 year member of Chapter P of the PEO and an active life time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She had a love for nature, enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Carol) Perkins of Red Wing; two daughters, Rhoda (Marlyn) Rusch of Hollister, Missouri and Carol (Vernell) Draheim of Bricelyn, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Bang of Red Wing and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Myrtle Bang; two infant brothers and one great grandson.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Hope Cemetery in Featherstone Township. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church or donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
