OBITUARY: Virginia Georgia "Jean" Schiesser

Funeral services for Virginia Georgie Schiesser will be a 10 A.M. on Saturday, December 29, 2007 from the Mahn Family Funeral Home Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. Casketbearers will be John Schiesser, Stevie Schiesser, Will McKnight, Jade Schiesser, Keith Hickey and Allen Miller. She has donated her body to the Mayo Clinic following the service. Memorials are preferred to the Pine Island American Auxiliary and the Berne Cemetery Fund c/o Scott Schiesser.

Virginia, age 79, of Rochester, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at the Seasons Hospice in Rochester. She was born Virginia Georgie McLeod on April 2, 1928 in Hudson, WI to Donald and Georgie (Aney) McLeod. She grew up in the Pine Island area and married Russ Schiesser in Rochester in 1949. She worked at Lading Drug/Pine Island Pharmacy and many years at Donaldson's of Rochester. Russ died in 1981 and she later moved to Yuma, AZ where she lived for 18 years. There she met and married John Swanson who passed away in 2002. "Jean" was a 58 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Charles Cowden Post where she served on several local and regional offices with the auxiliary. She was a long-time member of the Pine Island Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, MYF counselor, member of the Evening Circle and Church Board Secretary. In her retirement years, she was an active volunteer for Helping Hands of Yuma, AZ, Rochester Channel One, a member of Rochester Senior Citizens and the RSVP.

Jean is survived by Steve (Kathy) Schiesser, of Newport Beach, CA, Sue Ellen (Bob Ames) Schiesser, of Beaverton, OR, Scott (Julie) Schiesser, of Rochester, MN with whom she made her home in her final years. She was proud of her six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, who was killed in a tragic accident when she was four years old. Also two husbands, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be one hour before services at the chapel on Saturday.
