Virginia Louise Simon, 87, of Northfield, formerly of Red Wing, died Monday, March 15, 2021, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. She was born on July 19, 1933, in Northfield to Fredrick and Dorothye (Ostermeier) Aldorfer. She graduated in 1952, from Northfield High School and then attended the Minnesota School of Business. On May 7, 1955, she married Dennis Clemens. They resided in Diamond Bluff and later divorced. She moved to Red Wing in 1992. Virginia worked at Braschlers Bakery and then for Blue Cross /Blue Shield from 1978 until 1996 when she retired. Following retirement she volunteered for Faith in Action and for the Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidery, reading, putting together jigsaw puzzles and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She was well known for her delicious banana bread and being a grandparent to many of her family’s pets. For the past year she has been a resident at the Benedictine Living Community in Northfield.
Virginia is survived by her five children, Denise (Rod) Knowles of Menahga, Minn., Steven (Jean) Clemens, Jon (Tammy) Clemens and Jeanine Clemens all of Diamond Bluff and Inga (Matt) Weierke of Lakeville; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one brother, Ronald (Sally) Aldorfer of Grantsburg, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A public visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2021, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Social distancing and masks are required. A private service will be held and will be live streamed on the funeral home’s Facebook page at 3 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2021. Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
