Virginia M. Hanson

Virginia Maxine Hanson, 85, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born on April 20, 1926 in Lund, Wisconsin to Joseph and Alice (Larson) Stein. She attended schools at Barry Corner near Lund, Wis. and graduated as Valedictorian from Pepin High School in Pepin, Wis. in 1945. On June 18, 1949 she married Leland Hanson at Lund Covenant Church. For many years she worked for Sears in Red Wing until retiring. Leland died on October 26, 2008. She was a member of First Covenant Church where she was active in the Christian Women. She enjoyed camping, going to the cabin near Couderay, Wis. and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family recalls how each year she would host the family Easter and Thanksgiving festivities at her home.

Survivors include her four children, Jody (Gary) Ashley of Ramsey, Minn., Jill (Kevin) Frazier of Red Wing, Joel (Barb) Hanson of Red Wing and John (Mary) Hanson of Hager City; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Priscilla (Bruce) Eckblad of Red Wing and their children and families and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant daughter, Beverly.

Her family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Thomas Meyer for the care and comfort he provided.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at First Covenant Church with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Lund Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church.
