Virginia "Ginnie" Cook

Virginia Josephine Joren "Ginnie" Cook, 92, of Red Wing, died Monday, September 8, 2008 at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. She was born June 27, 1916 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Victor and Jennie (Warren) Moline. She attended schools in Cannon Falls and Red Wing. She married Ellsworth "Cookie" Cook on June 15, 1936 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They lived in Litchfield, Minnesota, moving back to Red Wing in 1937, living on Main Street for over 68 years. He died on March 12, 2000. She worked at various places cooking and cleaning. She took care of numerous children over the years. She was a member of First Lutheran church. She played trombone in the Salvation Army band. She enjoyed cooking, especially her baked rice, spending time with family and friends, and, of course, sitting on her front lawn on Main Street with her husband.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicky (Ron) Kimmen of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly (Nate Odman), Amber, Benjamin, and Ethan; three great-grandsons, Garrett Cook and Caleb and Jackson Odman; her twin sister's daughter, Arlene (Rick) Sutherland of Ellsworth; sisters-in-law, Virginia Lampman of Red Wing, Mary Lou Minor of Chicago, Onie Minor of Indianapolis and Joyce Minor of Rapid City; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth; one son, Clifford; one daughter, Elsie; one grandson and her twin sister, Victoria Mann.

Funeral will be 1:30 p. m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Karen Pahl officiating. Burial will be St. John's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donna Marking, Wendy Erickson, Bruce Mann, Rick and Mike Sutherland, Jim Edlund, Jim Miller and Mark Hokanson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer, Amber, Benjamin and Ethan Cook, Kimberly and Nathan Odman, Arlene Sutherland, Stephanie Prose, and her caregivers while she was at home and at the nursing home. Visitation will be 5-8 p. m. Tuesday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church.
