Virgil D. Mischke

Virgil Dahl Mischke, 84, of Red Wing, died Thursday at St. Brigids of Hi-Park. He was born December 8, 1923 in Red Wing to Frank and Myrtle (Dahl) Mischke. After graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1941 he started working at National Bushing. On May 24, 1943 he entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a torpedoman's mate aboard the USS Jallao. After being honorable discharged on March 12, 1946 he began working at Red Wing Auto Parts. In 1950 he married Beverly Hultquist at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. He later worked at Berhens Auto, where he worked for 38 years until retiring in 1990. He also owned and operated Red Wing Engine Parts, where he worked on marine motors, and served as a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He was a member at First Lutheran Church, Sub Vets of WWII, Burson Lillyblad VFW #1218, and Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Bev of Red Wing; daughter Bonnie (Greg) Hubbard of White Bear Lake; son, Brent (Debbie) Mischke of St. Louis, MO; one granddaughter and one grandson; sister, Joan (Ken) Helmer of Red Wing. He is preceded in death by brother, Gerald Mischke and sister, Fran Galvin.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial with military honors will at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Mischke, Dave Hubbard, Liz Shypulski, Brian Shypulski, Greg Hubbard and Bonnie Hubbard. Visitation will be Sunday 3 -5 p.m. with a Legion Service at 5 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church
