Virgil Eggenberger

Virgil B. Eggenberger age 87 of Lake City passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Mayo Health System Lake City Hospital Lake City.
Virgil was born November 3, 1926 in Lake City to John & Lillian (Burfeind) Eggenberger. He grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944. He entered the Navy and served much of his time during WWll on the U.S.S. Klondike. He was discharged in 1947 and returned to Lake City. Virgil married Elizabeth "Betty" Elwood June 30, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. He worked at Federal Mogul in Lake City until 1959 when he started at IBM in Rochester. In 1965 Virgil transferred to Durham, NC and moved to Boca Raton, FL with IBM where he worked as a manager. He retired in 1986. Virgil and Betty returned to Lake City in 1987. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, Lake City VFW Post 8729, Lake City Kiwanis and the Lake City Golf Club. He was a past President of the USS Klondike reunion committee. Virgil enjoyed playing cards, golf and more than anything else spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, three sons Jon (Jodi) of Lake City, Jay (Lisa) of Raleigh, NC, Jan (Terry) of Jupiter, FL; nine grandchildren, Jenna (Scott) Rogers, Jonathan, Jill, Amy (Jason) Harmon, Adam, Jaime (Reginald) Bellanton, Jessica, Justin, Jordan; one great grandchild, Oliver Noah Rogers; two brothers, Iver (June) and Rodney (LaVonne) of Lake City.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Dick, Dallas, Arvid, Harley; one sister, Ardis; one great grandchild, Noah Joseph Rogers.
Funeral service will be held at St John's Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 8th at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dennis Valleau officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 6 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City, MN. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post 8729 & American Legion Post 110. Memorials are preferred to Noah's Memorial SIDS Foundation, CEL/ c/o Noah's Memorial SIDS Foundation, 15600 36th Ave N Suite 120, Plymouth, MN 55446, also St. John's Lutheran Church Lake City.
