Virgil Bartels

Virgil W. Bartels age 88 of Lake City died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Lake City Hospital. Virgil was born November 8, 1918 in Mount Pleasant Township in Wabasha County to Gust & Anna (Wiebusch) Bartels. As a young man he and his parents moved to a farm in Gillford Township, in Wabasha County. He married Catherine Lamb June 14, 1945. He continued faming with his father and took over the family farm in 1948. Catherine died February 16, 1987. He was a member of Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church. He served 19 years on the church council, past member of the Rural School Board, life time member of the Zumbro Falls Sportsman Club, and as a youth he was a member of Walther League & Youth Society. He enjoyed baseball, bowling; hunting, fishing, and watching his grandchildren grow up. He is survived by two daughters Mary (Larry) Klindworth of Lake City, Marcia (Jim) Sprout of Lake City; one son Bruce (Deb) of Zumbro Falls; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren, one sister, Ruth (Donald) Luhman of Fergus Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife & parents and one sister Marjorie Kuehn. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Christian Christenson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 5 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
