Violet M. Stiller age 87 of Zumbrota died suddenly on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at her home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Erich Westphal officiating, Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2008 from 4:00 -7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Violet Marie Banitt was born on April 20, 1921 in Zumbrota, MN to August W. and Lilly H. (nee Brunkhorst) Banitt. She grew up in rural Zumbrota and attended country school. On June 2, 1939 she married Elmer Stiller at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. They made their home on the Stiller family farm in Pine Island Township for four years before moving to a farm in Minneola Township. After farming there for three years, they moved into Zumbrota and started a concrete block business in Zumbrota. They ran that business for seven years before returning to farming for another five years. In 1960 Violet and Elmer, along with Betty and Reinhard Zielsdorf started the Tally Ho Restaurant, which later became the Golden Fox Restaurant. They ran the restaurant for fifteen years, retiring in 1975. In 1976 Violet and her two daughters, Mary and Joan started the Little Fox Wagon, serving lunches at auctions. After ten years Violet sold her share of the business to her daughters. Violet was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, baking, story telling and spending time with her grandchildren. Violet is survived by her husband Elmer, two sons, David (Sharon) Stiller and Gary (Alyce) Stiller, both of Zumbrota, three daughters, Judy (Glen) Torgerson of Valley City, ND, Mary (Ken) Goodman and Joan (James) Wood, both of Zumbrota, twenty five grandchildren, fifty two great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, one brother, August (Mary) Banitt of Cannon Falls, three sisters, Lucille (Clarence) Mehrkens of Mazeppa, Eileen Groth of Goodhue and June Ohnstad of Wanamingo. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, LeRoy Banitt and one great granddaughter, Lauren Tiarks and one son in law, John Mitchell. Casketbearers are her grandchildren, Cindy Fredrickson, Daniel Stiller, James Mitchell, Bruce Goodman, Ben Wood, Jeremy Wood and Todd Stiller. The family suggests memorials to Christ Lutheran Church.
