Viola Katherine Rohe

Viola Katherine Rohe, age 93 of Red Wing, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Viola was born May 31, 1917, in Red Wing, the daughter of Walter and Amalia (Strusz) Dicke. She grew up in the Red Wing area and attended Featherstone and Immanuel Lutheran Schools. She was employed as a house worker before she was married. Viola was united in marriage to Carl Rohe on May 20, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. Viola enjoyed quilting, having made a quilt for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, bowling, and walking. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Belvidere. The couple rented a farm in the Lake City area until purchasing a farm in Belvidere Township in 1958. They farmed in Belvidere until selling the farm in 1980. They also owned and operated Goodhue Feed & Produce in Goodhue. Carl died on November 24, 1997.

Viola is survived by her children, Charles (Mary) Rohe of Zumbrota, William (Jackie) Rohe of Wykoff, and Barbara (Jay) Isler of Goldendale, Washington; son-in-law Larry Schafer of Belvidere; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was affectionately known as "Ma Rohe" to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; daughter Louetta Schafer; and one brother.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Reverend Scott Fiege presiding. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and also for one hour prior to the service at church.
