Viola A. Anderson age 90 of Goodhue died on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue with Reverend Randall Kuznicki officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Viola Anna Elizabeth Matthees was born on January 7, 1918 in Red Wing, MN to John P. and Hilma (nee Johnson) Matthees. She grew up on the farm in rural Goodhue and attended country school. On August 28, 1941 she married Edwin C. Anderson at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue. They farmed in Goodhue Township until retiring in the mid 1970's. They continued to live on the farm. In 2005 Viola moved to a retirement complex in Hastings. For the past year she lived with her daughter Sandy. Viola was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies aid and a member of the Goodhue Lioness Club. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting and playing cards. Viola is survived by two sons, John Anderson of Hastings, and Jim (Judy) Anderson of Brooklyn Park, two daughters, Linda Collins of Cannon Falls and Sandy (Eugene) Paul of Apple Valley, eight grandchildren, Mike (Nicole) Anderson, Mark (Michelle) Anderson, Clarissa (Paul) Gatchell, Tracy Collins, Brenda (Pete Rathjen) Paul, Jennifer Hewitt, Emily (Paul Zenicek) Paul and Sara Paul, six great-grandchildren, Carter, Brock and Nathan Anderson, Kayla and Colton Hewitt and Audrey Rathjen. Viola was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, one grandson, Cary Collins and two brothers, Clarence and Eldon Matthees. Casketbearers are her grandchildren.
