Vinnie M. Groth, age 101, of Zumbrota died on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Season's Hospice in Rochester. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 Pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vinnie Matilda Lohmann was born on March 12, 1912 in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, MN to John and Anna (nee Schmidt) Lohmann. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On September 19, 1934 she married Clarence C. Groth at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Vinnie was a hardworking farm wife, working side by side with her husband and family. They raised chickens, geese, ducks, sheep, cattle and hogs. Vinnie helped with baling hay and hauling in the loads of grain and corn. She enjoyed the farm life. Vinnie enjoyed fishing, playing cards, growing flowers, along with gardening and canning. In 1980 they moved into Zumbrota and Vinnie cleaned offices for several businesses in Zumbrota. Vinnie was a lifelong active member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Vinnie is survived by her children, Melroy (Elvina) Groth of Zumbrota, Sylvia (Lowell) Mitchell of Mazeppa, Archie (Susan) Groth of Oshawa, Canada and Ardell (Roger) Buck of Owatonna; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Rozella Lohmann of Zumbrota and Delila Heydmann of Zumbrota. Vinnie was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; two great-grandchildren; granddaughter-in-law, Robin Buck; sister, Adelia Grossbach; and brothers, Phillip Lohmann, Ernest Lohmann and Alvin Lohmann.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church or Season's Hospice.
