Victoria C. McCarthy, age 90 of Wanamingo died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Dale Lutheran Church with Pastor Heather Culuris officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.
Victoria donated her body to the Mayo Clinic for research.
Victoria Claire Hornick was born on March 4, 1923 in Marshfield, WI to Wenzel and Victoria (nee Ross) Hornick. She grew up in Wausau, WI and attended school through the eighth grade. Victoria married Lester Moore in January of 1939. He was killed in an accident in January of 1950. On July 15, 1959 she married John McCarthy. Over the years Victoria lived in Babbitt, MN, Rochester, MN, Wanamingo, MN and moved into the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island in August of 2011. Victoria enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going to Treasure Island to play bingo.
Victoria is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Bob) Theel of Wanamingo and Sandy (Ken) Kurry of Anoka; grandchildren, Jeff (Cheryl) Paatela, Brenda LaBeake and Dan (Sarah) Kurry; great-grandchildren, Skie, Travis, Kimberly, Allan, Amber, Jacob, Laura, Aaron and Benjamin; great-great-grandchildren, Hayle, Dustin, Grace, Nathan, Evan and Levi.
Victoria was preceded in death by her husbands, Lester Moore and John McCarthy; parents, Wenzel and Victoria Hornick; three sisters, Bernice Schmid, Martha Hansen and Marie Weis; one brother, Wally Hornick and granddaughter, Dale-Ann Beckwith.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
