Victor LaForest Lewis

September 21, 1922 — January 7, 2013

Victor LaForest Lewis, 90, of Red Wing, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at his home. He was born on September 21, 1922 in Hayfield, Minnesota to Lucius and Ella (Johnson) Lewis. He grew up in Hayfield graduating from Hayfield High School. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He was stationed at Normandy, France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. On July 16, 1943 he married Bettie Cottner in Winfield, Kansas. Following his discharge, he worked for Chicago Great Western Railroad until his retirement at the age of 61. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 and the Red Wing Elks BPOE #845. He was a history buff and an avid reader. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, biking and playing cards. His family recalls his great sense of humor and how much he enjoyed spending time with them. In May of 2009, he had the opportunity to take the Honor Flight to Washington DC with his daughter, Jackie.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie; three children, Sonya (Joe Golay) Baltz of Corvallis, Mont., Kevin Lewis and Jackie Brenne both of Red Wing; grandchildren, Michelle Stravens, Rob Wiech, Jeremy Linder, Gina Leonard, Mike Leonard, Christopher Leonard, Hannah Bell, Jake Possehl, Marissa Tegels, and Nick Brenne; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Betty Bradford; one sister-in-law, Charlotte Lewis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Victoria Longsdorf; one brother, Russ Lewis; sons-in-law, Michael Longsdorf, Duane Brenne and Orville Baltz; one grandson, Michael Longsdorf; one granddaughter, Kristin; and brother-in-law, Chuck Bradford.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan 11, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Barbara von Haaren officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
