Verona H. Windhorst, age 96, of Zumbrota, died on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Madonna Meadows Assisted Living Center in Rochester. Verona H. Post was born on February 20, 1916, in Chester Township, Wabasha County, the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Damman) Post. On May 19, 1916, Verona was baptized by Pastor Gerhart Hinethal at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. She grew up on the family farm and attended Grace Lutheran Parochial School. On June 2, 1929 she was confirmed by Pastor F.W. Weindorf at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. On September 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Melroy Windhorst by Pastor F.W. Weindorf at Grace Lutheran Church. Together the couple farmed in the Zumbrota and Hader area where they lived all of their lives. Verona was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Verona is survived by her daughter, Joan (Jon) Swanson of Rochester; son, Gary (Sue) Windhorst of Wanamingo; granddaughters, Jodie (Chad) Blakstad of Zumbrota, Jamie (Brad) Quam of Zumbrota; great-grandchildren, Dana, Danielle, and Brandi Blakstad; Tyler, Alyssa, Lyndsey, and Natalye Quam; sister, Eleanora Moe of Arvada, Colorado; sister - in-law, Evelyn Post of Mazeppa; brother-in-law, Erwin Scheffler of Cannon Falls and nieces and nephews.
Verona was preceded in death by her husband, Melroy who died on December 30, 1993; brothers, Alvin, Ervin, and Maynard Post; and one infant sister, Hilda Post.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Minneola Township with Pastor Randall Kuznicki officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
