Verona Marcella Johnson, 85, of Hager City, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Ellsworth Care Center where she has resided for the past year and a half. She was born on July 19, 1923, in Red Wing to Albert and Ethel (Olander) Baringer. She attended schools in Red Wing and on December 28, 1940, she was married to Eldon Johnson in Iowa. They lived in River Falls and Red Wing before moving to Hager City in 1970. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's circles, the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Auxiliary. Leo C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary and the Pocahontas. She also took care of the pool at the park near South Park years ago. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, taking bus trips and playing the guitar and singing.

Survivors include her husband, Eldon of the Ellsworth Care Center; three children, Delbert (Nancy) Johnson of Red Wing, Doreen (Dan) Bartlewski of Red Wing and Lynelle (Greg) Engeset of Ellsworth; one daughter-in-law, Lola Johnson of Bay City; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Jean) Baringer of Red Wing; one sister, Darlene (Leo) Goulette of Ellsworth and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Baringer of Red Wing along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Darryl; one brother, Wally Baringer; one great grandson, Zachariah Seymour and one granddaughter, Peggy LaPean.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Christine Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Trenton Cemetery. Casketbearers will be grandchildren; Darryl Johnson, Ara Engeset, Wade Johnson, Wendy Peterson, Rhonda Johnson and Angela Nelson. Honorary casketbearers will be the rest of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church or donor's choice.
