Vernon Dale Lund, 81, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the Red Wing Health Center where he has resided for the past month. He was born on September 5, 1925, in Red Wing to Ernest and Esther (Johnson) Lund. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1943 and then served in the US Navy from December 11, 1943 to February 2, 1946 during World War II. On December 13, 1944, he was married to Margaret (Peggy) Nelson. He worked for Montgomery Ward from 1946 to 1953 and then worked delivering bakery products for Sunbeam Bakery until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 and the Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post #1218. He enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; three sons, Dale (Lynn) Lund of Red Wing, Duane (Gayle) Lund of Hazelwood, Missouri and Douglas Lund of Faribault; one daughter, Susan (Jack) Warfel of Red Wing; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Burnside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Heather Ahern, Erika Schendel, Amber Brown, Paul McNamee, Teresa, Emily and Jacob Lund. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Book of Golden Memories of Christ Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
